FOR TUESDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
“All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-19; New Revised Standard Version)
In this passage, the apostle Paul invites us into the ministry of reconciliation – a challenging call, especially when we consider the complex, messy human situation we often find in the world today. We certainly live in a world where individuals, groups, and nations are in desperate need of reconciliation. We wonder sometime how we can even make a dent in the dysfunctional relationships that seem to grow like a malicious cancer all around.
Here’s some words of encouragement – the reconciling spoken of in this passage is accomplished in and through the Spirit of Christ – NOT by our efforts. While we cannot fix the problems others have in setting aside hate and resentment of others, we can continue with patience and love to invite others into the harmony that God can bring to the most broken of relationships.
PRAYER: Compassionate God, I bring to you the brokenness of this world – trusting that Your Spirit will bind us together again with the cords of love which cannot be broken. Amen.
