FOR WEDNESDAY *TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 6
“I’m tired of all this—so tired. My bed has been floating forty days and nights on the flood of my tears. My mattress is soaked, soggy with tears.” (Psalm 6:6; The Message)
When everything in life seems to be falling apart, what do we need to do? David turns to God in pray. He cries out what is often on our own hearts: “I’m tired of all this – so tired”. He honestly pours out the burdens of his heart before God. He does not glibly say as we often do when we are asked how we are doing with a dismissing “Okay” or “Fine” when we are anything but that. We hold back on what is really going on in our lives because we feel like those we are responding to do not really care what’s going on in our lives.
But God cares, God is ready and willing to truly hear how we really are deep in our hearts, and God responds to the weariness of our soul. God loves us so much that God will not leave us alone in our pain. Instead, God gently nudges us along, helping us to go the next steps in our journey of faith, a walk of love with our Creator.
When nothing seems to be going right in our life, that is not a time to give up but to give in – give in to God in prayer, trusting that even when we feel so helpless in life, God will be with us and will offer us the help, the comfort, and the grace we will need to continue on.
PRAYER: Precious Lord, You called for those who are weary to come to You to find rest. We need You, Lord, we need You – every hour, every moment and every day. Amen.
