FOR SATURDAY *TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 136
“Give thanks to LORD for he is good; God’s faithful love lasts forever.” (Psalm 136:1; Common English Bible)
In a children’s time message, Mike Butler offers two things he likes about a ball. One, it doesn’t have an end. It just keeps on going and going and going. There is no end and that is just like God’s love for us. He loves us and always will love us. There is no end. It just keeps going and going and going.
Two, you can share a ball. You don’t just keep it to yourself, you find someone and share it. God shares his love with everyone and we can continue always to share God’s love with everyone we know.
Throughout Psalm 136 a beautiful phrase is repeated: “God’s faithful love lasts forever.” These words could be used as a breath prayer (a “prayer of the heart”, Richard Foster) where we breath in saying “God’s faithful love…” and breath out saying “…lasts forever.” Try using this prayer throughout your day.
PRAYER: Ever-present God, thank you for always loving us and allowing us to share that love with everyone we meet. Amen.
