FOR MONDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: James 1:2-8
“But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.” (James 1:5; Common English Bible)
After King David died, the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and said to him: “What can I give you? Ask.” Knowing the challenges before him as he would become the new king, Solomon asked for wisdom saying: “Give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil” (1 Kings 3).
As we prepare to enter this new year — which will, no doubt, be filled with all sorts of challenges — we, too, need understanding and wisdom. The most challenging decisions we will have to make may not be so much between what as “good and evil” but figuring out the best thing we can do amongs a number of good options.
Prayer: Great and All-Knowing God, grant us the spirit of Your wisdom that we will have the smarts we will need to make the right and best decisions in this coming new year. Amen.
