FOR FRIDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 9:2-8
Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice spoke from the cloud, “This is my Son, whom I dearly love. Listen to him!” (Mark 9:7; Common English Bible)
During the season of Christmas, many families will reunite for food, gifts and remembering the past. Many of these gatherings will be full of love and laughter. Others may be bittersweet, uneasy and tense due to the loss of loved ones through the years or the breakdown of relationships.
We find in the relationship of God the Father and the Son a beautiful example of how we are to be with others. The Father “dearly” loves the Son. This love has intentionality surrounding it. Such love focuses on the other instead of being preoccupied with the self.
For us to rediscover such love with our families, we need to listen to the teachings of God’s Son and we need to listen better to one another.
Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for every opportunity You give us to reunite with friends and family. Help us all grow in Your love. Amen.
