FOR TUESDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 5:27-32
“Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them.” (Luke 5:29; New Living Translation)
When Levi was called to be a disciple of Jesus, not wanting to keep his new friend all to himself, he rounded up all this friends and colleagues to have a feast in Jesus’ honor. Levi couldn’t wait to introduce Jesus to others in his life. Following Jesus was not to be some private, solitary act in his life.
How are others in your life aware of your relationship with Jesus? Who are the friends and colleagues in your life who could use an introduction to Jesus? Our faith was never meant to be kept in private. Instead, the joy of our friendship with Jesus compels us to share him with others. John Wesley once said, “No man [or woman] ever went to Heaven alone; he [or she] must either find friends of make them.”
When you sit down for lunch or dinner with your colleagues, friends or family, how might you acknowledge the presence of Jesus in your midst there?
Prayer: Remind me, Shepherd of my Soul, that my calling to follow you includes sharing our friendship with others in my life. Amen.
