FOR THURSDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 9:27-31
After Jesus went inside, the blind men went with him. He asked the men, “Do you believe that I can make you see again?” They answered, “Yes, Lord.” (Matthew 9:28; New Century Version)
The reason Jesus asked the blind men if they believed was to see if they had faith. If they did not believe that Jesus could help them any hope for a better future would be thwarted. Jesus was seeking an affirmation that these men would cooperate with him in seeking their own healing.
When we have a hopeless frame of mind, no doctor in the world can cure what ails us. All the medicine in the world cannot make our heart willing to live again. The kind of willing spirit we bring to each day makes all the difference in what will happen. What we need to do is to place our life in the hands of Jesus, trusting that He can make us into what we ought to be, what we need to be.
Prayer: Once again, like the father of the troubled son, I pray, “I believe, Lord, help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24). Forgive me when I refuse to let go of the despair in my heart which prevents Your love from flowing fully and freely through every part of my life. Amen.
