FOR SATURDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Ephesians 2:1-10
“[God] creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.” (Ephesians 2:8-9; The Message)
I find it so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that everything depends on what I do. If I’m not busily working on keeping things afloat we are all sunk – my church, my family, my livelihood. But it is NOT all about me – it is all about God. Our “work is not what we do, we are the work that God does” (Practice Resurrection, Eugene Peterson, p. 98).
Accepting this truth, that God wants to fill all things bringing new life to all, now anything I do fulfills a whole new purpose. Instead of feeling that I have to work in order to be accepted or loved by God or others and to fix what is broken in the world, I now do what I do because I am loved and called by God.
Prayer: Because of your immeasurable grace, O God, I can really be alive to all the world around me. Lead me through this day as I seek to express my love and joyous appreciation for all that you have done and continue to do through me. Amen.
