FOR TUESDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Galatians 3:23 – 4:7
“For in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” (Galatians 3:26-27; The New Revised Standard Version)
January is a month of new beginnings. This weekend will usher in a new year and we will be faced with new resolutions that will challenge us to bring change into our lives and our world – hopefully, change for the better.
This Sunday we will celebrate Epiphany, a day which announces to the nations a new kingdom of light and hope. The next Sunday we will observe the Baptism of our Lord, a service in which we will be invited to renew our own baptismal covenant – reminding us that change is about the death of the old and the resurrection of the new.
An ancient baptismal practice was for the believers to be clothed with a brand new robe immediately after being baptized to symbolize their new life. Let us begin our new year by re-clothing ourselves with Christ.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, do your good work in me and through me today. Amen.
