FOR TUESDAY TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING: Galatians 3:23 – 4:7
“There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:28-29; The New Revised Standard Version)
Politically, are you Republican, Democrat or Independent? Denominationally, are you Baptist, Methodist or Presbyterian. Musically, are you “a little bit country or more rock-n-roll”? When you cheer to you say “Go Orange!” or “Go Blue!”? We tend to focus so much on our differences.
A woman in one congregation was being questioned by a fellow member who was trying to pin down her stand on a particular issue – to figure out whether she was “conservative” or “liberal.” Refusing to be labeled, she responded by saying simply, “I am a child of God. That is what matters.” What an awesome response!
The apostle Paul reminds us that we are all “one in Christ Jesus.” Let’s focus on what brings us together.
Prayer: How amazing You are, Creator God! As many and as diverse as we are, You still find a way to bring us together through the One whose birth we celebrate in this season – the One who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Amen.
